A serial thief has been jailed for stealing laptops, a computer monitor and a guitar from an NHS office.

Wojciech Mularewicz was spotted hiding in someone’s back garden after his raid on an administration building at Royal Cornhill Hospital over the May Day holiday weekend.

The 28-year-old prised open a window of the Garden Villa facility on Cornhill Road and sneaked inside, searching around for valuable items to take.

Mularewicz appeared at Aberdeen Sheriff Court yesterday awaiting his punishment, having previously pleaded guilty to the crime.

Fiscal depute Lynne McVicar said NHS staff first became aware of the thefts when they arrived at work on Tuesday, May 8.

She said: “A member of admin staff reached her workspace, next to a window, and saw her laptop was missing.

“Carrier bags on her desk had been rummaged through.”

Other members of staff then realised they had also been hit in the raid.

Altogether Mularewicz made off with four laptops, a computer monitor, a guitar and a pocket radio – worth more than £1,200 altogether.

But in an unusual turn of events, he was apprehended by police before they were even aware of what he had done.

Officers patrolling in the Rosemount area of the city had spotted him in a back garden at around 9.30pm the night before, in breach of his curfew.

And after a search of his property they found four laptops, all with NHS labels, and the remainder of the stolen property.

Mularewicz has made previous court appearances for shoplifting – taking headphones from the Union Square branch of phone shop O2 and clothes from TK Maxx at Kittybrewster Retail Park.

For those, sheriff Ian Wallace imposed 12 months of social work supervision.

And for the hospital raid he jailed Mularewicz, whose address was given as “no fixed abode”, for five months and 10 days.
