With the UK hitting a high temperature of 38.1C in Suffolk on Monday, the third highest on record, did the north and north-east reach any new heights?
In Scotland, the highest ever temperature recorded was in August 2003 when it hit 32.9C in the Borders village of Greycrook.
The Met Office said there was a 70% chance of setting a new Scottish record this week.
It did not happen yesterday, but the 2003 record is expected to go later today.
Here are some of the highest temperatures ever recorded across the region.
Moray
During the British Isles heatwave that took place at the end of August and start of September 1906, Gordon Castle near Fochabers reached 32.2C.
It was not to be yesterday, as the Elgin and Lossiemouth both saw temperatures of 21.7C.
Aberdeenshire
Back in August 1975, the village of Braemar in western Aberdeenshire hit an all-time record of 30C.
Yesterday the all-time record was broken, as Aboyne saw a high of 31.3C.
Other high temperatures across the area included Braemar at 28.6C and Fyvie Castle at 27C.
Aberdeen
The Granite City recorded its warmest day in July 2006, when the temperature also hit 30C.
With temperatures reaching highs of 27.5C in both Aberdeen and Dyce yesterday, it was not enough to beat the record that was set 16 years ago.
However, Dyce reported its warmest overnight temperature of 18C between Monday and Tuesday.
Highland
In May 2012, Inverailort in the the western Highlands reached 30.9C, the warmest temperature ever felt during May in Scotland.
No records were broken in the Highlands, although Aviemore was only 1C away after reaching 29C.
The Highland capital Inverness saw a high of 23C.
Argyll
In July 2021, a high temperature of 28.4C was recorded at Dunstaffnage near Connel Bridge.
Yesterday’s temperature of 21C in Oban was nowhere close to breaking the record set last year.
Shetland
The highest temperature ever recorded on Shetland was 27.8C on August 6, 1910 at Sumburgh Head on the southern mainland.
It was a cooler day in Shetland yesterday, with the Gulberwick weather station recording a high of 16.6°C, while Fair Isle recorded the Met Office’s lowest maximum temperature of 14.5C.
Orkney
Orkney’s hottest ever temperature is believed to be 27.2C, however, in recent times the warmest was 24.2C in May 2021.
Like Shetland, it was a cool day in Orkney, with a high of 16C in Kirkwall.
Western Isles
The highest temperature ever recorded on the Outer Hebrides was 27.2C, which was at Benbecula Airport on July 30, 1948.
There was no chance of records being broken, with Stornoway seeing highs on 18C, nearly 10C off the long-standing record.
