A three-week public poll was launched yesterday to give people the opportunity to vote for who they think should be represented in the Hall of Heroes line-up at the revamped Provost Skene’s House.
The attraction will showcase the story of entrepreneurs, inventors, scientists, artists and sports people who have had a significant impact outside the north-east.
There are five categories: Stars of Stage and Screen, Scientific Saviours, Musical Maestros, Sporting Champions and Wizard Wordsmiths.
People have been asked to vote for a hero in each category – the top two will represent their section in the Hall of Heroes.
The selection criteria for Provost Skene’s House allowed for those who were born, lived, or worked in Aberdeen or the north-east.
Names were drawn up under the guidance of a steering group, which included representation from the cultural, academic, tourism and business sectors.
The renovation and redevelopment of the Provost Skene’s House is part of the £1.5million city centre masterplan project.
Aberdeen City Council leader, Jenny Laing said: “People from Aberdeen and the north-east have shone across the world and Provost Skene’s House will be a beacon to their achievements.
“This masterplan project will draw visitors from near and far. They will be amazed by the breadth of talent we have produced over the centuries – and which we continue to do so.
“It’s especially exciting that the public will have a chance to vote, now and in the future, for their own heroes, those held in high regard or with particular meaning for them.”
Voting will be carried out online via the council website. Forms will also be available at Marischal College and in libraries and community centres.
