A host of local charities will receive a share of a £35,000 windfall this week, thanks to a new supermarket membership scheme.
The Co-op introduced the initiative – which allows customers to earn back 5% on any Co-op own brand products they buy, while the company donates 1% to local charities – back in September.
Since it was launched, Co-op UK has handed out £9million to charities up and down the country.
The money raised from nine stores in Aberdeen during the past six months will be handed over during a presentation at the city’s Palm Court Hotel tomorrow night.
It will be shared between 17 local causes, including Aberdeen Play Forum, Home-Start Aberdeen, Middlefield Community Project, Momentum Skills, 21st Aberdeen (Cults) Scout Group, and Grampian Autistic Society.
Other groups to benefit include Aberdeen and North East of Scotland Music Festival Association, Men and Boys Eating and Exercise Disorders Service, Rubislaw Playgroup and Riding for the Disabled Aberdeen Group.
Lewis Esson, store manager at the Great Western Road Co-op, said: “Each store has up to three charities they support and with 17 stores in the Aberdeen area this means we can help make a big difference.”
