A woman had to be freed from her car yesterday after two cars crashed on a north-east road.
Emergency services were called to the A944 Aberdeen to Alford road shortly after 4.30pm following reports of a crash involving a black Subaru and a blue Renault outside Kirkton of Skene village.
Ambulances arrived within five minutes and discovered a woman was trapped in her vehicle while a man had been left with injuries.
The black Subaru was forced off the road in the collision and entered a nearby field.
It was left with extensive damage to its bonnet and on its driver’s side.
The blue Renault remained on the road but was also smashed into bits along its front.
The fire service sent two units to the scene and crewmen helped the stranded woman out of her vehicle.
A fire service spokeswoman said: “We had two units there, both from North Anderson Drive.
“We helped a woman out of her vehicle using a long board and got her into the back of an ambulance.
“We left at 5.40pm.”
Incoming traffic was diverted at the junction with the B979 Netherly Road through Gask for more than two hours as emergency services waited for the vehicles to be recovered.
A police spokesman confirmed the two people were transported to hospital but there injuries were not thought to be serious.
He said: “We were called at 4.45pm to a road accident.
“A woman had to be helped out of her vehicle.
“She was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary along with a man.
“Neither of them had serious injuries and were just taken to hospital for a check up.
He went on to say: “Traffic was diverted while we waited for the vehicles to be recovered.
“The road was reopened at 6.55pm and we left after that.”
