Aberdeen University is investigating after hateful graffiti was scrawled across numerous buildings of the King’s College campus.
The vandalism – which contains racist and homophobic content – has been found in toilets and stairwells in recent weeks.
A message to students and staff said it would likely constitute a crime under hate law legislation and that security would be stepped up in response.
Keith Campbell, head of security, said: “In recent weeks there has been a number of occasions where graffiti has been found in buildings across King’s campus.
“This behaviour is unacceptable, and very likely to constitute a criminal offence under hate crime legislation.
“This ongoing matter is one which the university is taking seriously, and anyone found to be responsible will be subject to internal disciplinary proceedings, and the matter reported to the police.
“Security and porters on campus are carrying out increased patrols in response to this ongoing issue, and at this time we would urge staff and students to be vigilant and to report any known activity, including the identity of those responsible.”
