The owner of a north-east shooting range has admitted breaching health and safety rules – resulting in a contractor being crushed to death.
David Paterson died after a heavy door fell on top of him while he was working at Seal’s Cove Shooting Ground, south of Cove.
The 55-year-old had been moving an armoury door, under the supervision of business owner Neil Anderson when the accident happened on November 27, 2014.
As Mr Paterson attempted to change a slinging arrangement during the manoeuvre, the door fell on him and trapped him. He died from his injuries.
At Aberdeen Sheriff Court yesterday, Anderson – who trades as Anderson’s Guns, admitted not having a sufficient safety plan in place for the job.
The 59-year-old, of Glensaugh, Fettercairn, admitted he had failed to properly plan and execute the moving of the door, and failing to have in place a suitable slinging arrangement to life it in a safe manner.
Sentence was deferred until next month for background reports.
