Aberdeen residents are being urged to take part in a public session to hear details of the planned multi-million development of Union Terrace Gardens.

The £25.7 million Aberdeen City Council project will include the creation of new entrances and walkways, three pavilions, landscaping and lighting, and the refurbishment of the Union Terrace arches.

Members of the project team will be at Aberdeen Central Library, Rosemount Viaduct, from 6pm-7.30pm on Wednesday, August 21, to discuss the delivery programme. No booking is required.

Plans for UTG were approved by Aberdeen City Council last year.

Council culture and masterplan spokeswoman Marie Boulton said: “Residents have played a key role in advancing plans for Union Terrace Gardens, firstly by sharing their aspirations for the gardens during the Masterplan consultation and then again when offering feedback on the design concept.

“The drop-in event will provide an opportunity to learn more about the delivery programme itself and how that will be phased.

“The council is committed to continuing to work with the community as we take forward this flagship project, one that benefit the city for generations to come.”

Balfour Beatty has been appointed to carry out the work, which is expected to be completed by Summer 2021.

This week council leaders took part in a turf-cutting ceremony ahead of the construction start next month.
