Dons legend Jamie Langfield made a return to Aberdeen yesterday – to watch as his wife graduated from the Robert Gordon University.

Louise Langfield picked up her second degree, this time in public health nursing.

Proud husband Jamie – who spent 10 years in goals for Aberdeen Football Club – watched on with daughters Ruby and Maisie.

A nurse of 12 years, Mrs Langfield decided to return to the world of academia to further her career.

The 32-year-old said: “I’ve been a nurse for so long now, so I was looking for a new direction in nursing.

“It was a bit of a challenge to get back into academia again after graduating 12 years ago, and I had the added difficulty of my course being done through distance learning, but the staff at RGU were there whenever I needed them.

“Graduating was really lovely and nice. Obviously I didn’t have my two little girls there last time I graduated so having them and the whole family there was fantastic.

“I’m a people person, I’m all about relationships and communicating with people, so it felt fitting that I made my career in nursing a priority, and of course nursing is so important to our society.

“I’m now working in Glasgow as a health visitor, which I could never have been without attaining this degree, so I’m very proud.”

Mr Langfield, who currently plays for St Mirren, praised his wife’s achievements.

“It’s brilliant to see what Louise has achieved,” he said.

“The year she was studying was really hard on her, but what she’s done is just incredible and our whole family is so immensely proud of her.

“I missed her first graduation, so it was great coming to this one with the girls and supporting her, and seeing all the friendly faces again in Aberdeen.”
