Funding boost for music and dance workshops in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire

Scottish Culture & Traditions (SC&T) hopes to increase the number of young people across Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire taking part in its activities.
Scottish Culture & Traditions (SC&T) hopes to increase the number of young people across Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire taking part in its activities.

Young people in the north-east will be invited to get more involved in traditional music and culture through a new national project.

Scottish Culture & Traditions (SC&T) has received funding from The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo’s youth development fund to launch a series of taster sessions and workshops.

They will run in partnership with Creative Scotland and are aimed at encouraging a larger and more diverse youth audience across Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire.

Richard Ward, vice chairman at SC&T, said: “Weekly online classes, outreach work and workshops will all be taking place, following our popular Youth Camp, which has been taking place online this year.

“Our thanks go to the funders for making this project possible at a time when we are told that children are suffering emotionally from lack of social contact and reduced educational opportunities.

Aimed at providing 5-26-year-olds with opportunities to develop skills in piping, drumming, Highland dance and traditional fiddle playing, The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo youth development fund is supporting sixteen projects across Scotland.
