North-east woman one step closer to dream – starting her own music business

Laura Scott
Laura Scott

A former Fraserburgh Academy pupil with a passion for music and dreams of opening her own music business has just hit the high notes with a first-class degree.

As she carefully plans her career, Laura Scott, 21, is looking for a job to help fund her further education.

As the first member of her family to attend university – and she now has a degree in International Business Management – Miss Scott would now like to get onto a Masters course in a music school, but “needs to get some money first”.

She has been musical from an early age and feels her future lies in the music industry.

As she said: “Throughout my life, music has been my outlet and my passion.

“I’ve played the cello and piano since I was seven and have been a member of a variety of orchestras and amateur dramatic societies, including the Fraserburgh Junior Arts Society.

“I’ve always dreamed of opening my own music business and chose the International Business Management course as the best way to begin – because of the added value it would bring through placements, study abroad and intense modules on management and leadership.”

Miss Scott’s degree allowed her to spend one term at Humber College in Toronto.

She added: “It was so special learning in a new culture with new friends and lecturers. The experience was something else and I really loved the independence and the way the module was taught completely differently abroad.

“It made me realise that there is so much out there in the world to experience and that I would love to move to Canada some day.”

Talking of all her hard-work paying off, she described how happy she now feels.

She said: “I’m really proud that I achieved a first-class honours degree, something I never thought would be possible – I can’t describe the feeling when I opened my results.

“University has changed me into an independent, mature woman with an optimistic outlook on life. It’s made me realise that following your dreams is the most important thing and that music definitely is my calling.”

She is now planning the next step in her career by researching different masters degrees in the music field and identifying gaps in the music industry market.

Before that though, she has an important job in front of her, she said

“I will be Musical Director for the 2017 pantomime Snow White with the amazing Fraserburgh Junior Arts Society.”
