More than 10,000 people in Scotland have tested positive for Covid-19 since pandemic began

Scotland’s death toll has risen to 1,231 after a further 47 patients who tested positive for Covid-19 died.

The latest figures from the Scottish Government show there have been 10,051 people diagnosed with the virus since the pandemic began.

A total of 47,749 tests have been carried out in Scotland, with 37,698 being confirmed negative.

In the Grampian area, there are now 700 confirmed cases, up from 638 on Friday. There are 98 people in hospital with suspected or confirmed Covid-19 and nine in intensive care.

The number of confirmed cases have also risen in the Highlands from 214 on Friday to 220. There are currently 52 in hospitals across the north of Scotland.

Today’s figures also show there has been a new case confirmed on Orkney, taking the island’s total to seven while Western Isles and Shetland recorded no new cases in the past 24 hours.

There are six cases in the Western Isles and 54 on Shetland.
