Caley Thistle goalkeeper Mark Ridgers has urged his team-mates not to panic after his side’s 4-2 Championship defeat by St Mirren on Saturday.
Inverness twice came from behind to level, with goals from John Baird and Liam Polworth cancelling out Saints’ efforts through Lewis Morgan and Gavin Reilly.
Long-range efforts from Cammy Smith and Ian McShane sealed the points for Jack Ross’ men, however, with the result moving them top of the table – eight points ahead of Caley Jags.
Ridgers knows margins are fine in a competitive league and he reckons a victory against Livingston on Saturday can trigger his side’s revival.
Ridgers said: “There’s no need to jump about and get panicky. We are only five games in and, looking at the results and the way things are going in this league, if we get a good result against Livingston next week hopefully we will be looking up again.
“That’s just the way things are going to be this season. It’s frustrating when we put a lot of effort into games but there will be times again this season when we will put a lot into a match and don’t get anything out of it.
“If we can keep the effort up and cut out silly mistakes, and stop giving away soft goals, we will hopefully find ourselves there or thereabouts at the end of the season.”
Ridgers is prepared to take his share of responsibility for the defeat, with the 27-year-old accepting some of Caley Thistle’s defending was below standard against his former club St Mirren. Ridgers added: “If we had a bit of luck it would have helped us massively. We can be disappointed with the way the game finished, as we did well to get back into the game. We managed to create chances again but we need to try to tighten up and stop losing soft goals.
“I’ll be the first to hold my hands up and say it’s my job to try and keep them out. Sadly, I can’t keep them all out but we need to improve. If we get that bit of luck it can change how things go.”
