Huntly’s John Henderson has lost his PDC tour card after missing out on qualification for next month’s World Championship.

The Highlander was beaten 6-1 by Rusty-Jake Rodriguez in Barnsley at the tour card qualifier for the Alexandra Palace bonanza.

Henderson needed to qualify for the World Championship to have a chance of retaining his place on tour.

If he wishes to continue playing on the PDC circuit the 49-year-old will need to regain his place at Q-School in January.

Henderson’s highlights

Henderson, who previously played in the BDO ranks, joined the PDC having come through Q-School in January 2011.

Since then he has played in the World Championships nine times with his best run being to the last 16 in 2018.

Henderson appeared in the World Matchplay five times and the World Grand Prix five times.

It was at the latter event where he came closest to winning an individual TV title as he defeated Michael van Gerwen and Raymond van Barneveld on his way to the semi-final before losing to eventual champion Daryl Gurney.

Henderson also played in the prestigious Premier League twice in Aberdeen as a challenger.

On the first occasion in 2019 he earned a thrilling draw with van Gerwen in front of a fanatical north-east crowd, while a year later he lost to Nathan Aspinall.

But Henderson’s finest moment in the PDC came in September of last year when, alongside Peter Wright, he won the World Cup of Darts for Scotland after a superb run in which they defeated China, Poland, the Netherlands, Wales and Austria.
