Over 100 graduates from UHI’s Stornoway and Inverness campuses will be out today celebrating their new degrees and qualifications in nursing and midwifery.

The celebration is the first to mark the achievements of nursing and midwifery students who studied through the Covid-19 pandemic.

More than 250 guests are expected at the ceremony, set to take place at the Free North Church in Inverness.

Dr Nicola Carey, head of nursing and midwifery, said that the ceremony will celebrate not only the students’ learning but contributions to the community that they made throughout the pandemic.

“Our nursing and midwifery students played a vital role in supporting the work of the NHS over the last couple of years, on top of completing their academic studies. We are here today to show pride in what they have done and to wish them well as they take the next step in serving our remote, rural and island communities.”

Mark Richards, the Scottish Government’s associate chief nursing officer, will deliver the keynote speech.

Graduands will also celebrate a number of individual achievements, including UHI Student of the Year Samuel Thomas, from Forres, and Inverness’s Ronie Walters, UHI’s first PhD nursing and midwifery graduate.

Below is a full list of who will receive degrees and qualifications at the ceremony.
