It seems that a “Call the Midwife” plea has delivered the goods in the north-east of Scotland.
Because a total of 19 new midwives are poised to join the ranks of NHS Grampian.
Students of the bachelor of midwifery course at Robert Gordon University will soon be starting their new roles as maternity care assistants, before becoming midwives once their registration is active with the Nursing and Midwifery Council.
Aberdeen Maternity Hospital is currently transferring their midwives unit into the labour ward to maximise their workforce in one area, following a period of staff shortages.
NHS Grampian’s chief midwife, Jenny McNicol responded: “We are absolutely thrilled to welcome our new midwives on board permanently.
“They are already a valuable addition to our team here at Aberdeen Maternity Hospital. It is an exciting time to be joining us with the building of The Baird Family Hospital – a state-of-the-art facility which will include the new maternity services, due for completion in 2020.”
Liz Treasure, course leader for the Bachelor of Midwifery at RGU, said: “This will be a fantastic opportunity for our talented students and I am excited to see their careers progress from here.
“RGU has a long history of working closely with our partners in the health sector and we know that these latest appointments will be a positive benefit to the health and wellbeing of expectant mothers in the north-east.”
