A north-east Girl Guide has been handed a prestigious royal award for her work with the organisation and for choreographing her town’s production of Annie.
Carrie Scott was presented with her Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award by extreme marathon runner Roddy Riddle during a reception with the Earl of Wessex at Holyrood Palace.
The 18-year-old spent more than a year working towards the accolade, including taking part in a skiing trip, hiking across the Highlands and devising the dance moves for Fraserburgh’s community musical.
Miss Scott, a member of Fraserburgh’s Girl Guide senior section and a student at North East Scotland College in Aberdeen, said: “I am so grateful to have had this amazing opportunity.
“If it weren’t for this I might never have got up the confidence to approach my local community theatre group about choreographing their production of Annie.
“It turned out to be a huge success and now I’m their head of choreography.”
The health and fitness student said that her rain-soaked Highland expedition helped her make new friends.
She added: “To anyone thinking about doing their Duke of Edinburgh I’d say go for it – it’s an amazing opportunity to try something new.”
Girlguiding Scotland offers members aged between 14 and 24 the chance to earn Bronze, Silver and Gold awards while taking part in a wider programme of activities for girls and young women.
