Cancer charity to open hub in Aberdeenshire

A leading charity has announced it is opening a cancer support centre in north Aberdeenshire next month.

Clan has signed a lease to set up the facility within the Crimond Medical and Community Hub.

From March 6, it will offer free drop-in sessions offering advice and information to anyone affected by cancer.

It will also have the capacity for one-to-one counselling, pain and stress relief therapies, and cancer-related support groups.

Initially the centre will open from 10am to 4pm on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays, with the option to expand these in the future.

Dr Colette Backwell, the charity’s chief executive, said: “It was clear from the outset that the Crimond Community Hub offered Clan the ideal opportunity to not only develop our own services in north Aberdeenshire but also to build valuable links with the other organisations within the hub, adding to the growth of this valuable community resource.

“I’m confident that the facility will play a key role in our aim to provide wellbeing and support services in the heart of the local communities we serve.

“This fantastic new facility will provide us with the basis to continue to build our outreach services to Fraserburgh and Peterhead and in the surrounding area from Stuartfield and New Deer in the south of the area to Lonmay and St Combs in the north.”

As a result of the move, Clan’s existing bases in Fraserburgh and Peterhead will close at the end of this month.

The charity’s outreach services, which are held weekly in both towns’ libraries, will continue to be held.
