An Aberdeen teenager has taken a step towards her dream career by landing a place at one of the UK’s leading performing arts academies.

Morgan Thomson, 17, has been accepted to the new BA (Hons) Musical Theatre degree course at The MGA Academy of Performing Arts in Edinburgh.

The Albyn Academy pupil will begin full-time training to become a professional performer in September.

She said: “I was in school and got a text from my Mum to tell me that a letter had arrived and I’d been accepted. I cried in class.”

Morgan gained the place after impressing a panel with her acting skills and theatre experience.

She added: “My main strength is singing as I’ve been doing that the longest, but I do a lot of acting too, and have been in The Pirates of Penzance and The Addams Family at Tivoli Theatre with Aberdeen Youth Music Theatre.”

Drew Gowland, The MGA Academy co-founder and managing director, said: “We’re delighted to welcome Morgan onto our inaugural BA (Hons) Musical Theatre degree course.

“For more than a decade, we have been providing students like Morgan with exceptional training on par with London’s leading dance and drama schools.”
