An Aberdeen studio is welcoming an internationally recognised artist to inspire people across the north-east.

American Tom Huck will be Peacock Visual Art’s newest artist in residence from next month onwards.

Mr Huck, who specialises in wood carving, will be working alongside the studio’s staff as well as running workshops during his time in Aberdeen.

The partnership was launched following a chance encounter between David Mccracken, print curator at Peacock Visual Arts, and the wood carver last year.

Mr Mccracken said: “I happened to bump into him at an art event in New York.

“I suggested the idea of him coming to Aberdeen, after successfully selling the city.

“I’d mentioned Peacock’s had done work with Ralph Steadman, a Welsh illustrator and one of Huck’s heroes.

“He seemed touched by the idea of our wee studio in Scotland and said yes. Hick is truly a legendary artist and it will great to have him here.”

Peacock Visual Arts will be publishing the woodcarver’s ongoing triptych series called “The Monkey Mountain Chronicle.”

A triptych is a detailed work of art that is divided into three wooden blocks that are hinged together and can be folded shut or displayed open.

Upon completion, the piece will be displayed at the prestigious Fine Art Print Fair in New York in 2020.

The first four weeks of Huck’s stay will be spent carving a massive wooden block, and the last two weeks will see Mr Huck printing a design onto it.

While the woodcarver works on the piece, aided by staff from Peacock Visual Arts, the public will be invited to attend workshops and special events.

Mr Mccracken added: “Aberdeen has welcomed him with open arms and, during our Skype sessions, he seems really excited to be working here.

“We will be hosting workshops and an open studio event – which means people will have the chance to see a true master at work.”

Tom Huck will be at Peacock Visual Arts between August 16 and October 3.
