A woman was recovering last night after being knocked down by a car outside an Aberdeen supermarket.
The shopper, in her mid-50s, was injured in the car park of the Tesco store on Wellington Road at about 3.45pm and taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary by paramedics.
The incident is understood to have taken place in the lane for vehicles leaving the car park and a stretch of it was sealed off as police launched an investigation.
Officers directed traffic from the car park as congestion built up in both directions on the busy A956 road between Cove and the city centre.
A red Audi was stopped close to where the woman was hit, while a silver Subaru had pulled over on the southbound side of Wellington Road with a wing mirror hanging off.
As traffic police helped queues of vehicles ease past the scene, other officers took statements from Tesco staff who witnessed what took place.
A police spokesman said: “Given that the incident took place at rush hour it caused some serious issues for road users.
“The woman did not, however, suffer any life-threatening or life-changing injuries.
“She was taken to hospital as a precaution as she suffered some bruising.”
The cordon was taken down at 5.50pm.
Shortly after the woman was taken from the scene in an ambulance, witnesses described a man “kicking off” inside the Tesco store.
The man was later seen handcuffed on the ground and a police spokesman confirmed last night that he had been detained and taken to Kittybrewster station.
The spokesman could not confirm whether the man’s arrest was connected to the incident where the woman was injured.
