An Aberdeen community has launched a fundraising campaign to improve the state of their local play park, after the council advised it could only afford limited upgrades.
The park at Sheddocksley Community Centre’s play area is due to be refurbished by the local authority but its budget will only cover play equipment and ground resurfacing, not seating costs.
An online appeal was set up this week by chairwoman of the community council, Louise McCafferty, with a target sum of £3,250 to pay for two benches and a picnic table.
Other plans to raise cash include a quiz night, a car boot sale, collection tins and prize auctions.
An Aberdeen City Council spokeswoman said: “It’s fantastic the local community have got together to raise extra cash for this and their efforts are to be praised.
“The works are due to begin in November with the removal of the existing equipment, and the new play area is due be installed in February, weather and ground conditions dependent.”
Local councillor, Steve Delaney, added: “The Sheddocksley play park is long past its sell-by date and in much need of renewal, something I have raised on numerous occasions in recent years.
“I was pleased to see some of the indicative plans for its replacement recently, plans which will significantly increase its size and introduce a wide range of new play equipment.”
