Plans to improve a north-east street have been approved by councillors.

Banff and Buchan area committee approved plans to resurface Bridge Street in Banff, and improve Temple View car park.

The proposal is part of a wider Banff regeneration programme which aims to make the narrow one-way road more attractive for small shops and business.

Improvements to Bridge Street include increasing the width of footways, and enhancing street lighting.

There were four objections to the planning application including concerns over bin collections, parking for residents and bike stands taking up space for people with wheelchairs.

Speaking at the committee meeting, planning officer Jim Martin recommended councillors to approve the application.

He said concerns over parking would be “mitigated” by the new and improved car park and that there are “minimal negative points” surrounding the scheme.

Councillor Glen Renyolds said: “I believe that the work that will be undertaken to the car park will address those parking concerns.

“This is a really exciting project that will be of huge benefit to the area, residents and local businesses.”

Changes to Temple View car park include one electric vehicle charging point with two bays and new fencing. It will allow spaces for 35 cars and it will also have two disabled parking bays.
