Man cut from car after it overturns on A96 in rush-hour crash

Fire crews were called to Fernhill Drive in Aberdeen.
Fire crews were called to Fernhill Drive in Aberdeen.

Firefighters had to cut a man from his car last night after it overturned during a rush-hour crash on the north-east’s busiest trunk road.

Emergency services were called to a stretch of the A96 Aberdeen to Inverness road at the Clinterty roundabout in Bucksburn just after 4pm.

One car had landed on its roof as a result of the crash, which was thought to have involved two other vehicles.

A man was cut free from his car following the collision, and taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, but police said his injuries were “not too serious”.

The road was closed in both directions for several hours, causing traffic delays and major tailbacks.

One lane reopened just before 6pm, but traffic in the area remained slow.

Traffic Scotland described traffic in the area as “very slow”.

A spokesman for the  fire service said: “We were called to traffic accident at the Clinterty roundabout at around 4pm.

“Firefighters used hydraulic cutting gear to release one casualty.

“We received a stop message from our team at 5pm.”

A police spokesman said: “We were called just after 4pm to a report of a two-vehicle crash at the Blackburn roundabout.

“There has been one male taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, and the injuries do not look to be too serious.”

Police were still on the scene just after 6pm.
