Councils in the north-east will be operating a booking system to ease queues when recycling centres reopen.
The Scottish Government’s plan to ease lockdown restrictions allows sites to open gates once again from May 28 following a reported increase in fly-tipping across the country.
All councils have had to make changes to centres to allow physical distancing to take place, while staffing will be reduced to comply with restrictions.
Yesterday Moray and Aberdeenshire councils said they would be operating a booking system to avoid a repeat of traffic jams experienced in England.
Moray Council said 2,500 weekly booking slots would be made available from June 1 for sites in Elgin, Buckie, Forres and Keith.
Aberdeenshire Council intends to have 12 locations open the same day, with Peterhead following on June 8 once essential repairs have been completed.
However, the authority stressed drop-offs at its sites would be restricted to bagged general waste, garden waste and electrical items.
Highland Council will not be operating a booking system but says staff will be at sites to turn vehicles away if queues become too long.
The authority aims to have as many sites as possible open for just bagged waste and garden rubbish on June 1.
