The north-east’s very own Wild West town is gearing up to appear in a television competition featuring some of the best sheds in the United Kingdom.

Filming will take place today in Tranquility, near Huntly, prior to the unique locale appearing in this year’s Shed of the Year competition.

The Tranquility saloon will be vying with sheds from all over Britain for the top spot and the group is hoping that their authentic western village will impress judges on the show.

Tranquility first got involved with the competition after the programme’s producers discovered them on a re-enactment website back in January.

The team from Channel Four got in touch to tell the members of Tranquility that filming would take place with presenter, George Clark.

The re-enactment team have subsequently been busy readying their premises for its Channel Four debut.

Founding member of Tranquility, Alistair Baranowski, said: “We’re really excited to be taking part.

“We only found out about filming less than a week before it happens, so we have been scrambling to prepare the shed and get it looking its best.

“We’ve also recently visited America to see some of our western friends in New Mexico, which is always very enjoyable and helps keep Tranquility as authentic as possible.”

Speaking about the saloon, Mr Baranowski explained how the space had become a real hub for Tranquility.

He said: “The shed is unique in some ways, but I know the winner last year also had a western-themed saloon.

“However, I think that was one building, but we have 10 here.

“I imagine they will focus on the saloon as that’s the biggest of our buildings and the one we spend the most time in.

“I’d also say it is quite iconic of the Tranquility town in its own way.”
