A record number of treasured vehicles will turn out for one of Aberdeenshire’s most popular events this weekend.
The Vintage Car and Motorcycle Rally will once again be held at Milton of Crathes tomorrow with around 300 classic and collector’s machines expected to be involved.
The figure means that race organisers, the Banchory Rotary Club, are expecting their biggest-ever turnout.
The event will feature machines from the vintage era – pre-1930 – alongside cars and motorcycles from every decade right up to the present day.
A limited number of vehicles will also be given the chance to participate in a road run from Crathes to Raemoir, Torphins, Inchmarlo and Banchory.
Scottish tunes will be provided by the Banchory Pipe Band, while there will also be side-shows, stalls, tombola and a bouncy castle.
This is the 20th year of the annual rally – which will principally raise money towards the Banchory Sports Village.
Councillors backed outline proposals for Banchory Sports Village last October.
However the Banchory Sports Village Trust was tasked by Aberdeenshire Council with raising £700,000 towards the facility and has amassed £585,000 of that tally.
Other charities will also benefit from the event.
Harry McNab, chairman of the rally’s organising committee, said: “We look forward to welcoming the public to a day out viewing what will be a huge range of vehicles from a bygone age and supporting our fundraising efforts to raise money for a development which will be of great benefit to the community in Banchory.”
Commercial director for the event’s sponsor, EFC Group, Louise Creane-Smith, added: “We are delighted to continue our support for this valuable fundraising event that supports local community and charitable projects.”
