An American dance ensemble will stage a spectacular show at Aberdeen’s Beach Ballroom next week to raise cash for The ARCHIE Foundation – the official charity of the Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital.

The Brigham Young University Ballroom Dance Company from Utah have secured numerous awards and accolades around the globe for more than 50 years and are in the UK to defend their championship title.

And now, the dancers will take a day out of their whirlwind tour to visit Aberdeen’s most famous ballroom on Tuesday for a one-night-only performance of their “Swing and Sway” show.

Organised by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, all of the proceeds of the night will go towards helping sick children from across the north-east, Orkney and Shetland who visit RACH every day.

Church member Sandra Wood said: “On the morning of Tuesday, we’ve got two dance sessions at the hospital, including groups at the haematology ward and also at the children’s hospital, where The ARCHIE Foundation are based to entertain the kids.

“They were here about three or four years ago and they were absolutely amazing, they are incredibly beautiful dancers.

“We choose a new charity every year at the church, but we wanted to raise cash for ARCHIE this time because of all the work it does for young people in need in the north-east.”

Emma Slesser, fundraising manager for The ARCHIE Foundation, said she has already bought her tickets.

She added: “Tuesday is going to be a very exciting day for The ARCHIE Foundation and for the children and staff of the hospital.

“These award-winning dancers are travelling such a long way and we are really looking forward to seeing the show and meeting them.

“Raising much-needed funds to help the charity and make a real difference to sick children is wonderful in itself, but also coming to the hospital to put on a show for the children is amazing.”

Tickets are still available for the 7pm show, and can be purchased from www.aberdeenperformingarts.com or by calling 01224 641122.
