Locals are being given their say on plans for a major expansion of a popular Aberdeen shopping centre.

A public consultation has been launched into proposals to enhance the Bon Accord and St Nicholas centres.

A pre-application notice for a large-scale extension of the current site – including shops, a hotel, restaurants and flats – has been submitted to Aberdeen City Council.

A number of spots in the two centres have now been identified for expansion and enhancement by owners, BMO Real Estate Partners.

The first public consultation event will take place on Thursday, August 18 from 4pm until 8pm at the Bon Accord Centre, with locals being asked to attend and propose ideas.

The final planning proposals will be shown to the public at a second public exhibition event scheduled for October.

Joanne Wilkes, spokeswoman for BMO Real Estate Partners, said: “The Bon Accord and St Nicholas centres play a key role in the historic retail heart of the city, and we are looking at a number of exciting ideas and masterplanning opportunities to further enhance and develop the shopping and leisure experience within the centres.

“City centre masterplanning studies have identified a number of zones around the centres for potential development, and we would like to hear the views of local people on what improvement and expansion ideas they would like to see.

“We hope that local people will attend our consultation event on Thursday, August 18 as their ideas and thoughts are key to the future development of the centres.”

The expansion plans were first discussed back in 2014, with a luxury cinema among the ideas on the table.
