An Aberdeenshire woman has presented a north-east cancer charity with more than £25,000 following her inaugural fundraising walk.

Nearly 400 people joined organiser Alison Brown for the 10k Purple Walk, in Kemnay, in support of Clan Cancer Support on September 4.

Mrs Brown, 35, had accessed the charity’s support and well-being services after being diagnosed with cancer in 2013, and decided she wanted to give something back.

The mother-of-two, from Kemnay, is delighted at the success of the event and is now looking for support to host the walk again next year.

She said: “I really had no idea the day would develop into what it did. To have so many people come together from across Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire to raise awareness and funds for Clan was truly inspirational.

“My family and friends were also so supportive and really encouraged me to push forward with the event as they know how much Clan helped me and my close family during my treatment. However the event wouldn’t have been such a success without all the fantastic people who walked the 10km with me.”

Susan Crighton, fundraising manager for the charity, said: “The awareness that Alison has helped to raise about Clan’s services both in Aberdeen and the Inverurie area is so important to us, but to also raise over £25,000 at the same time is truly special.

“We cannot thank Alison, her family and friends enough for their hard work and support and are delighted that Alison is already planning an event next year.”
