Victims of hate crime can now report incidents online – in a bid to build a better picture of prejudice in the north-east.
Equalities campaigners have stated the region appears to have escaped so far the rise in incidents of discrimination seen in other areas after the Brexit vote.
But they are concerned that existing reporting systems – mostly done via the authorities – may discourage people from coming forward.
Grampian Regional Equality Council (Grec) has produced a web-based tool with Aberdeen City Council.
The form can be used to report anonymously an incident you’ve experienced or witnessed, to request support and to get help to report it to the police.
GREC general manager Dave Black said: “We don’t want these types of incidents to increase significantly, but at the same time, we know they are happening and going unreported.
“We want to make sure that everyone who needs it receives support and advice, and a clear message is sent at this politically turbulent time: prejudice and discrimination are not acceptable in the north-east.
