The north could see lashings of snow and ice as temperatures plummet overnight tonight.
The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning and temperatures are expected to fall below freezing, with showers of rain, sleet forecast.
The forecaster warned motorists to take care and said difficult driving conditions and slippery pavements may last until 12pm tomorrow.
Snow is expected to be a hazard on higher ground, with ice likely to form on untreated surfaces.
The Met Office said: “Accumulations of 2-5cm of snow are possible, with some drifting in the strong northerly winds.”
