Dons star Shay Logan helped youngsters celebrate scoring a health kick when he visited a city school.

The 29-year-old fan favourite was at Greenbrae School in Aberdeen yesterday to meet P4-P7 pupils who have been participating in Health Week.

Children have spent the week taking part in several different sports and learning all about eating healthily with tailored lessons and fun activities, including making their own smoothies by using a bike. The aim of the week was to inspire the children to carry on healthy habits in the future.

As a reward for their hard work, right-back Logan dropped in to the school for a question and answer session to share the secrets of his success as well as sign shirts and have photographs with children, many of whom were young Aberdeen fans.

Sharing his tips on how to be successful, he told the children: “It’s just hard work. You don’t have to be the best or the most talented. If you put 100% into whatever you do, whether you do football, tennis or write a book, you won’t be disappointed in the end.”

Anna Royle, head teacher at the school, said: “It was the grand finale of our health week and it was nice to end it with a bit of glamour.

“We’ve had a number of outside fitness and sport experts in with the children. We’ve had a rugby coach and a karate coach in doing sessions with the children and they have been participating in different sporting activities.

“We’ve also been promoting healthy eating. We had an iBike smoothie making session and health-specific lessons to promote health and wellbeing.

“The view is that we want it to continue even though it’s just a one-off health week.

“We are really lucky. Shay is an outstanding footballer and a bit of a local celebrity. The children have been really excited for weeks, some of them didn’t believe he was coming. It is great to see a professional footballer take the time to come and meet the children.

“He’s a good example to come in for health week. I know he has a huge fitness regime.”
