A man jailed for killing his friend has launched an appeal to have his sentence cut.
Darren Barnes, known as Riley, was jailed for 10 years after being convicted of the culpable homicide of 26-year-old Robert Reid.
But Riley, who is also known by the nickname Cannie, has now lodged an appeal against the jail term.
Yesterday, Mr Reid’s family claimed it showed Riley has “no remorse” for the killing.
Riley repeatedly struck Mr Reid with a knife at his home on Arnage Place, Aberdeen, on October 26 2016. He had claimed self-defence, but the jury heard his friend had suffered 21 different injuries.
Mr Reid’s partner, and mother of his four-year-old son, Jackie Hanratty, said the appeal was causing fresh upset.
The 29-year-old said: “He’s got no remorse whatsoever.
“I genuinely thought he was going to accept it rather than put us through even more hurt than he’s already done.
“I had said I hoped one day I might be able to forgive him but it’s now come to the stage he’s really traumatised us as a family.
“We’re not getting a chance to grieve.
“Every time we seem to start to get back into a routine there’s something else comes up, court, sentencing and now this.
“We’re a year and a half later and I still haven’t got closure or answers.”
Mr Reid’s mother, Margaret, added: “He knows this will be ripping us all apart.
“We’re just devastated with it all.”
