A north-east killer is back behind bars after he was caught with a knife in his pants.
Francis Thomson, known as Mcphee, was jailed in July 2015 after being found guilty of causing the death of Scott Ashton who he punched on the Shiprow during a fight.
His victim smashed his head off the cobbles and died in hospital three days later.
Thomson was jailed after he was found guilty of culpable homicide.
He was released from prison on licence but this was revoked last year.
Police turned up at his address in Oldtown Place in Aberdeen on September 15 after receiving reports of a disturbance and found him in the communal area of the building wearing only underwear.
They took him to his flat to get some more clothing and discovered a knife inside his pants.
He confessed to being in possession of a knife in a public place during an appearance at Aberdeen Sheriff Court yesterday.
Fiscal depute Alan Townsend said: “The knife was eight inches in length with a silver coloured handle.
“It did not look dissimilar to a miniature samurai sword.”
Representing Thomson, defence agent Les Green said his client had struggled to cope with being outside prison.
He said: “Social workers noted he had moved all the furniture in his flat into his bedroom in order to make it look more like a prison cell.
“The knife was found in the communal hallway a day or so before.
“His last recollection of that evening was playing around with knife in his flat, he does not remember putting in in his underpants.”
Sheriff William Summers jailed the 30-year-old for 18 months.
He told him: “You have pleaded guilty to being in possession of a knife and that is particularly serious.
“It is of concern that the knife was concealed.
“I see no purpose in adjourning this case for a report, there is no alternative but to impose a custodial sentence.”
