Pedestrian struck by car on Aberdeen road

A female pedestrian has been struck by a car on a busy Aberdeen road.

Police were made aware of the incident, which took place on Great Northern Road, at 6.30am.

The 23-year-old woman has sustained “serious and life-threatening” injuries and has been taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.

The road is currently closed between Lilybank Place and Burnett Place.

A police spokesman said: “We expect the road to be closed for some time.”

Police have now unveiled more details about the early morning crash, which involved a red Ford Focus, and are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

Road policing inspector Steve Manson said: “I am appealing to anyone who witnessed the collision and who hasn’t already spoken to police to come forward.

“I am particularly keen for the occupants of a Silver Audi TT and a White Vauxhall Corsa, who appeared to stop after collision, to come forward.

“They may have information that could help us with our enquiries.

“I would also like to thank drivers in the area this morning, especially parents and children attending Kittybrewster Primary School, for their patience whilst we have been attending to this incident.

“The road will remain closed for the time being whilst we carry out our investigations. I would urge all HGV drivers to avoid the area and to use an alternative route through the city for the moment.
