They were told they could expect the installation of a new bus gate camera back in July 2019.
But the residents of Old Aberdeen are still waiting and growing increasingly frustrated about the situation.
Months after the projected installation, it is unclear as to when the proposed bus gate will actually be established.
Proposals to create the facility at College Bounds, by High Street in Old Aberdeen, were first mooted by the Old Aberdeen Community Council.
Bus gates – usually short sections of road – are commonly blocked to all traffic except buses, cycles and taxis.
Chairman of the Old Aberdeen Community Council, Dewi Morgan said: “The community council is disappointed the council hasn’t been able to complete this job.
“We have been waiting since the proposed date in July of 2019 and I hope this situation is one that can be resolved soon.”
It was previously manned by the police and the community council hoped the local authority would assume responsibility, in a bid to increase safety on the stretch.
The road is only meant to be utilised by buses and taxis, but without the installation of a bus gate camera, there is next to nothing to stop other drivers from using the route.
Concerns were raised at a community council meeting this week that the absence of such a camera was an open invitation to drivers to abuse the system.
The group also reached a consensus over concerns that those who are abusing the stretch often do so at considerable speed.
Councillor for Old Aberdeen, Seaton and Tillydrone, Alex McLellan said: “I would very much like a bus gate camera installed at the location and will continue to push for one.”
Last year, signage was changed to make the route an official bus gate, but the lack of a camera limits the enforcement of the rules.
It is understood that the enforcement camera will make up part of the council’s budget setting process.
An Aberdeen City Council spokeswoman said: “Officers are reviewing the potential installation of a fixed enforcement camera, but no decision has been made yet.”
An automated camera would catch motorists in breach of the rules and would lead to fines being imposed on offenders.
