Police have asked for the public’s help in tracking a criminal who severely injured a man in an unprovoked attack at an Aberdeen nightclub.

Officers from the Alcohol and Violence Reduction Unit have released CCTV images of the attacker who carried out the “vicious” assault at Nox Nightclub in Justice Mill Lane in the city centre in the early hours of Sunday, May 8.

The incident took place at around 2.20am within the premises, and resulted in a 25-year-old male being left with serious injuries.

The man responsible is described as being in his mid-20s, around six feet tall, with a medium build and short dark hair.

On the night of the attack, he was wearing a long sleeved t-shirt with dark coloured sleeves and jeans.

Investigating officer, Constable Paul Slatter said: “This was a vicious attack resulting in a male sustaining severe facial injuries.

“Assaults of this nature have a significant impact on the life of the victim.

“I would appeal to anyone who recognises the male picture or has any knowledge of this incident to come forward and contact the police.”

It is understood that the man’s jaw and one of his eyes were struck during the assault, which took place in a stairwell inside Nox.

Martin Greig, chairman of the city’s community safety partnership, said: “It is horrifying that this assault has been so severe and has caused so much damage and distress to the victim.

“These kinds of unprovoked attacks are relatively rare in the city, so when they do happen, they are even more shocking.

“We have a really safe nightlife economy in Aberdeen city centre, and we were the first city to win the Purple Flag safety award, so we usually have an enjoyable, safe environment, and crimes of this type are easily detected.

“But this relies on people providing reliable information to help find the wrongdoer.

“It is vital to track down the offender and anyone with information should immediately tell the police or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
