A touring musical is hitting the right notes to raise thousands of pounds for charity.

Jackie: The Musical is currently performing at His Majesty’s Theatre, Aberdeen, and is more than halfway through a five-night run.

The cast’s visit to the Granite City is part of an extensive UK tour, which has already seen them perform in Inverness.

The production celebrates the iconic magazine for girls, Jackie, which was created by Press and Journal publisher, DC Thomson.

In addition to taking sell-out crowds back to a time of flared trousers, glam rock and The Osmonds, the cast members have also been calling on audiences to dip into their pockets and raise funds for local and national charities.

So far, they have amassed £46,000 with a fundraising target of £50,000.

During their time performing at the Highland Capital’s Eden Court theatre, they managed to raise about £3,000 for the refurbishment of the neighbouring Highland Hospice and organ donor charity Live Life then Give Life.

Meanwhile, during their time in Aberdeen, they are donating cash towards the Music Hall renovation project and Teenage Cancer Trust.

The charity drive was the brainchild of Lori Haley Fox, who plays Jill in the production.

The New York-born actress said: “I think that, because it’s such a happy show, people are in a great mood, and are really anxious to help us.

“Each night, four of the cast or crew take it in turns to go to the front of the theatre with buckets.

“It has been absolutely fantastic so far and the audiences really love it.

“I think people come in knowing it’s a show based on a magazine, so they wonder what they are going to see – it’s taken them by surprise, but in a good way.”

And the 52-year-old was full of praise for both Aberdeen and Inverness.

She added: “HMT is absolutely gorgeous, it doesn’t get any better.

“We have even had some sunshine while we’ve been in Aberdeen, the city has been glistening with the granite, it’s been beautiful.

“It was the first time I’d been to Inverness, I spent a week camping and absolutely loved it.

“I wish we had more time there.”

Jackie: The Musical will be performed at HMT tonight and tomorrow before finishing its tour in Glasgow.
