The funeral of an Aberdeenshire schoolboy who died after falling from a tree will be held this week.

Lachlan MacKenzie died in the tragic accident while visiting family in Troon.

The 12-year-old, from Muir of Fowlis, was yesterday described as a “great lad who was always smiling” by his football club, Donside Juveniles.

His funeral will be held at Leochel Cushnie Church on Friday at 1pm.

His family have asked that donations, in lieu of flowers, be made to his football club and that mourners wear a “touch of blue”.

Lachlan was a goalkeeper for the 2004 club, who play in the under-13 B league within the Juveniles.

The club described the Alford Academy pupil as a “member of the family”, and held a minute’s applause in his memory before a match involving Stonehaven Youth and Donside.

In a statement, the club said: “Lachlan’s family have told us that Donside was Lachlan’s greatest love in life where he made some amazing friends. We, as a club, are extremely proud that Lachlan chose to play for Donside.

“Lachlan was a great lad who was always smiling and he was a fantastic keeper for the 2004’s. He will be sadly missed by all that knew him.

“Our thoughts and condolences are with Lachlan’s family and friends at this devastating time.”

They said everyone involved with the team was upset at the tragic news.

Lachlan died on Thursday after falling from a tree at Fullarton Park Woods, in Troon.
