Aberdeenshire Council’s Labour group has launched their manifesto for the upcoming local authority elections.
There are currently two Labour councillors at Woodhill House – Stonehaven’s Raymond Christie and North Kincardine’s Alison Evison.
Mrs Evison is also the co-leader of the authority, with Labour part of the Partnership administration along with the SNP and Progressive Independents.
The Labour manifesto highlights the “key role” the two councillors have played in shaping council policy over the past five years, including fighting for the living wage for council employees and welcoming Syrian refugee families to the area.
Now the Mrs Evison and Mr Christie are battling to increase the group’s size.
Their manifesto pledges include improving pay and conditions for carers, providing every academy a school counsellor to look after pupil mental health, and tackling fuel poverty.
Last night Mrs Evison said: “The manifesto is the result of a democratic process, involving consultation with community groups, business representatives, local unions and party members.
“Together we have put together a manifesto which focuses on delivering quality public services, improving housing and supporting local jobs.
“We want to give every young person in Aberdeenshire the best start in life and to ensure that social care delivers the service people need. ”
She added the Labour candidates are focused on listening and responding to local people and their concerns.
