Scottish Water praised for quick repairs to popular walkway

Volunteers who maintain part of the Old Deeside Railway line, in Banchory, have praised the quick work carried out by Scottish Water to make repairs.

The Press and Journal reported earlier this week that a section of the path’s surface, near Burnett Park, had been washed away after water from a burst water main nearby flooded the public footpath.

Community frustrated by lack of action from water authority

Ken Henderson from the Banchory Paths Association had bemoaned the lack of action from the water authority.

But he confirmed last night that Scottish Water contractors had now completed the repairs.

“We would wish to thank Scottish Water for their response today. The path is now safe for users and it is our understanding, from the workmen, that they will be back to do some final finishing off to bring the path back to its original condition.”

Last night a Scottish Water spokesman said their first priority had been to fix the burst main, and added: “Where further reinstatement work is required to repair damage caused by incidents, we work with relevant parties to plan this work as quickly as possible.

“We would like to thank members of the Banchory Paths Association for their patience while these repairs were planned and carried out.”
