A north-east couple have celebrated their platinum wedding anniversary with their friends and family.
Robert and Chrissie Clark met at local dance when they were in their 20s.
And now, 70 years on, they told their granddaughter that the secret to such a long and happy relationship is compromise.
The couple tied the knot at the Ban-Car Hotel, near Fraserburgh, on December 13, 1947 and both went on to work in the agricultural industry.
Originally from the Rathen area, they moved to Aberdeen only to return to the north-east and settle in Fraserburgh in the late 1980s.
Their family has expanded over the last seven decades and includes two grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Although not keen on the spotlight, Mr and Mrs Clark did win a competition run by Asda in Fraserburgh in 2014 to find the port’s longest-married couple.
They managed to secure victory having been hitched for 67 years at that point.
Speaking at the time, Mr Clark said: “We are delighted to have won the competition and hope our story proves to any young couples just starting out that it is possible to have a long and happy marriage.”
Yesterday, granddaughter Diane Noble asked them what the secret to long and happy marriage is and they told her it all comes down to compromise.
She said: “They have said the key to a happy marriage is give and take.”
Mrs Noble remembers them always being together when she was growing up, and said they were “excited” to be marking such a major milestone.
She said: “I’ve got memories of going to visit them and it was always the two of them.
“They have been in their current home for about 30 years and they are very chuffed, excited and pleased about the anniversary.”
“They are spending the day with their family and friends and they just like to sit back and avoid the limelight.”
They marked their anniversary with their loved ones at home in Fraserburgh yesterday.
Mr and Mrs Clark, who are aged 94 and 92 respectively, were presented with flowers and a bottle of 12-year-old malt whisky by councillor Doreen Mair.
She said: “I think it is an amazing achievement and it was a pleasure to meet them, it really was.
“They’re a really nice couple, obviously still happily married after all these years and it was great to hand over the flowers and the whisky on behalf of Aberdeenshire Council.
“They actually just stay across the road from me and it was really nice to do something like that.”
