Aberdeenshire man caught with £7,000 of cannabis faces prison sentence

A drug dealer caught with more than £7,000 worth of cannabis has been warned he could be locked up.

Michael McIntosh was pulled over on the northbound carriageway of the A90 Aberdeen to Dundee road, between Fordoun and Stonehaven, on Tuesday, February 6.

Police had received intelligence that the 20-year-old was transporting drugs to Aberdeen in his white Peugeot Partner van.

Yesterday, the city’s sheriff court heard that when officers stopped the vehicle at 10.40pm they “detected a strong smell of cannabis coming from it”.

Fiscal depute Vicki Bell said: “In the rear there was a large bag containing a green substance, and further bags were later found when the vehicle was searched.”

The court heard that a search warrant was subsequently obtained for McIntosh’s home on Mameulah Crescent in Newmachar, where more of the Class B drug was found taking the total recovered to more than one kilogram.

The fiscal added that the total street value of the cannabis recovered was about £7,225 and McIntosh later admitted being concerned in the supply of the substance.

Sheriff Philip Mann deferred sentence until July 2 for the preparation of background reports.

Sheriff Mann added: “This is a very serious offence, involving a significant quantity and value of drugs.

“The most likely outcome is a custodial sentence.”
