An Aberdeenshire community is hosting a defibrillator and CPR training session tomorrow.

Fordoun Defibrillator Group (FDG) has formed after the life-saving kit was installed in the village’s memorial hall in August.

Members are inviting locals to come along to learn how to use the equipment.

Wayne Evans, chairman said: “First aid emergency response is an important life-saving skill. Especially in this village where it is difficult to expect an ambulance to turn up in four minutes.

“For everyone to learn the skills themselves is much needed.”

The group started fundraising in May after the sudden death of a close friend in February. The closure of two road bridges in the village also prompted the fundraising push amid fears emergency services could be delayed.

They kicked off fundraising efforts by setting up a non-profit public Facebook group FDG, and were delighted when local businesses also rallied behind the effort.

A major contribution from Macphie Ltd, the support of the British Heart Foundation and a grant from Aberdeenshire Council’s top-up fund also enabled them to purchase and install the first defibrillator.

The group has also received funding from the Auquhirie Windfarm Community Fund for a second defib, which they plan to install at Redmyre School.
