A man has been fined for warning police Islamic State would “get them” before making a gun motion with his fingers and saying “boom”.
Officers were called to a birthday party near Inverurie after Gary Sutherland lashed out and attacked his uncle.
When they arrived, Sutherland continued acting aggressively before threatening the police with terrorists.
Yesterday, the 36-year-old appeared at Aberdeen Sheriff Court and admitted assaulting Hugh Sutherland at house in Meikle Wartle on February 27.
He also admitted acting in a threatening and abusive manner that night, as well as being in possession of cannabis.
The court heard Sutherland had been reluctant to attend the party, because of growing tension over the family’s inheritance.
Fiscal depute Alan Townsend said when he eventually arrived he was extremely drunk and an argument broke out with his uncle.
He said: “At around 9pm, Hugh Sutherland noticed the accused arguing with his brother outside. He advised he would drive the accused home to avoid there being further incidents.
“Sutherland then approached his uncle and grabbed hold of him by the throat for a few seconds before he shrugged him off.
“Sutherland then kicked him to the legs causing him to bend over and he then kicked him to his face.”
The court heard the police were then called and found he was still wound-up.
Mr Townsend added: “The accused then turned to the constable and said ‘Isis will get you’. He made a gun motion with his finger and said boom”.
The following day officers discovered cannabis at an address in Insch where he had been staying.
Representing Sutherland, of G 48 Silversands Caravan Park, Lossiemouth, solicitor Stuart Murray described it as a “regretful situation”.
He said: “It was a family gathering, drink was consumed. There was ongoing issues regarding a marriage. A new person had come into the family and inheritance played a part in these matters. The issues have been on going for some time.”
Mr Murray said his client currently supports himself by letting out flats and online gambling.
Sentencing Sutherland, Sheriff Margaret Hodge said she took into account the “very unfortunate family background”. She fined him a total of £175.
