A group of lifesaving volunteers are to endure freezing temperatures this weekend as they take on the 14th edition of the Strathpuffer 24.

Four volunteers from Invergordon Lifeboat have pledges to saddle up for the 24-hour endurance event this weekend in an effort to raise vital funds for RNLI towards valuable assets needed to keep the charity afloat.

Allan Lipp, 39, a staff coxswain on the team, will be joined by fellow crewmembers Mhairi Ross Michael Maclellan and Scott Walker to complete the line-up of Team Yellow Wellies.

Mr Lipp said the event was a “real team effort.”

He said: “The biggest challenge is probably going to be the weather. Last year it went down to minus 15 overnight and this year is probably going to be the same, going down to perhaps minus 10.

“Looking at the forecast, there is going to be snow and ice and lying snow. We are at the course setting up so it’s given us an idea of what the conditions are like.

“We are all quite excited about it. It was hard graft last year as it was the first time we had done it. You really do get a buzz when you do it; a sense of achievement.”

The group have since set up a fundraising page in a bid to raise hundreds of pounds to “future proof the charity”, with aspirations of beating their 2018 donation which rose to more than £1,000.

A spokeswoman from RNLI said: “It’s fantastic that Team Yellow Wellies’  efforts will also be helping their station, everyone at the RNLI wishes them lots of luck as they do battle with the Strathpuffer course.”
