Ground-share plan to be “reviewed” by Clachnacuddin FC

Clachnacuddin FC have said they are “reviewing” a proposal to ground-share with another Inverness football club.

The Highland League team said their financial stability would be at the “forefront” of any decision to proceed with a link-up with Inverness City FC.

The club is considering whether to take forward a proposal to instal a new 3G artificial pitch at the Grant Street Park, home of Clach.

As well as being a long-term goal of Clach, the development has been suggested to try to safeguard the future of the Highland capital’s only junior club, Inverness City FC.

If approved, it would also be available for use as a new community facility for underprivileged youngsters in the Merkinch area of the city.

But Clach chairman Alex Chisholm has insisted that a review would now be carried out into the proposal before any decision is made.

He said: “The club took part in negotiations regarding a 3G surface being installed at Grant Street Park as part of a proposed ground share project.

“Contrary to some reports, there was no formal agreement in place between stakeholders at that time.

“As a forward-thinking club we are always open and listen to anything that is brought to the table that may benefit the club and the community.

“After careful consideration the club has agreed the options presented would need to be reviewed as the financial stability of our club will always be at the forefront.”

Councillors are expected to discuss the idea at the first meeting of the new city of Inverness area committee on June 19.

The plan was unveiled in January after the future of Inverness City was thrown into doubt last year when council chiefs told the junior club that their five-year lease of a pitch at the Bught playing fields would not be renewed when it expires in August.

Mr Chisholm added: “We will also strive to improve the playing squad and also develop our young players for the future benefit of the club.

“We are a debt-free club that have worked extremely hard over the last few years; this is down to all the voluntary work from directors, committee and most importantly our supporters society members.

“During this time we have paid off our mortgage and now own our facilities outright.”
