An annual village gala was hailed a “resounding success” by organisers, despite the weather.
The Longside Gala, now in its 19th year, has traditionally involved an entire weekend of festivities.
But this year organisers cut back the programme to a single day on a trial basis – because of new licensing rules and falling attendance.
The event was scheduled for Saturday and went ahead in “damp” conditions.
Nevertheless, the 70 vehicles in the vintage car display drew the crowds and a marquee keep visitors dry.
Gala chairman Norman Smith said: “It was a good day – a bit damp but we had a super vintage car collection and some new cars as well.
“A lot of stall owners came and we had a marquee. I was surprised with the number of people who still came given what sort of day it was.”
Attractions included an annual family disco as well as the crowning of the Longside Gala Princess. The traditional highland dancing competition was held in the marquee.
Last week Mr Smith, an independent councillor for Central Buchan, said the organising committee had decided to trial running the fete on a single day.
“This year was a trial run to see how it would work on one day. It was a success even though the weather was bad,” he added.
“I think we can really make it work on one day. It was a resounding success.”
Another popular attraction on Saturday was the return of the Bloo Toon Loons. The charity team, inspired by Peterhead toddler James Ritchie, drove to Benidorm and back in a customised Thomas the Tank Engine car to raise money to tackle spina bifida.
To date the four-member team has raised more than £4,000 for Spina Bifida Hydrocephalus Scotland. The charity has pledged to spend the money locally.
