Vandals caused hundreds of pounds worth of damage after destroying a bridge at a popular north-east park.
The incident is the second time in as many months vandalism has left The Haughs, in Turriff, wrecked.
Last month, culprits tore through football pitches at the park on off-road vehicles which left youngsters with nowhere to train.
The damage was only discovered by volunteers of the park’s redevelopment partnership when they they began carrying out pitch inspections before a weekend of games.
Now they have been left frustrated again by another “mindless” act of violence.
The damage, which was discovered yesterday, is thought to have been carried out between October 27 and October 31.
Metal railings and wooden slats of a bridge crossing over a small creek were left destroyed in the attack.
Last night, a spokesman for the Haughs Redevelopment Group said the bridge was beyond repair.
Police are now appealing for anyone who may know who is responsible for the damage to come forward.
Investigating Officer Constable Alfie Stuart said: “Mindless damage such as this is not acceptable.
“I would like to appeal to the public to contact police if they saw anything suspicious during these times in and around The Haughs, in Turriff.
“Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101 quoting officer reference A7604 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 if you wish to remain anonymous.”
The park has the only grass pitches available for the community to use in the town.
Other facilities are currently under repair following a series of floods in the area over recent month
And the largest of the pitches is unusable following a circus show last year which cut up the turf.
